At 10, Paige is already working on her first book. Whenever she gets a free moment, she pulls out her notebook and writes one or two more lines of her story. You might not guess that this enthusiastic reader and budding writer was getting reading help at school until very recently.

Every year, an estimated 13,000 Oregonians experience a traumatic brain injury. Of these, about 100 occur in children under the age of 21. Many children with a traumatic brain injury - or TBI for short - aren’t identified for a variety of reasons. But a TBI can severely impact a child in many ways.

Michelle Graham of Scappoose, Oregon, a retired health executive and intensive care nurse, has joined Northwest Regional Education Service District’s board of directors. Michelle serves in the Zone 4 position, which represents Columbia County and parts of Beaverton. She was sworn in on Oct. 9.
