The goal of effective community engagement and public relations efforts relating to Integrated Guidance is to establish authentic, reciprocal relationships and foster lasting educational equity through community-driven schools that are culturally rooted and responsive. Community engagement, as defined by ODE’s Community Engagement Toolkit, is a broad term encompassing a number of approaches to authentically and meaningfully engage communities in school, district and regional processes. Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their communities.
The resources and self-assessments in this section draw from ODE’s Community Engagement Toolkit, ODE’s Progress Markers and the National School Public Relations Association’s Rubrics of Practice and Suggested Measures to help you identify measurable goals and actionable next steps.
