Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants provide support to educational teams and building staff as well as to parents and students who need assistance. Through Consultation, SLPs can address the changing needs of the student over the course of the year using a variety of methods, within the broader educational environment. Consultation can include coaching, modeling, communicating with outside medical providers and facilitating the use of assistive and augmentative communication technology.

Within the consultation model, SLP’s collaborate with teachers and parents to increase access and engagement in education settings by:

• Identifying appropriate instructional strategies, modifications and/or accommodations.

• Addressing social, academic and vocational needs that have an impact on attainment of educational goals.

• Supporting Response to Intervention teams

• Participating in team, school and district meetings as necessary

SLP’s design school-wide speech-language services that employ hybrid service delivery model in a variety of settings to meet diverse student learning needs. SLPs continually engage in professional learning to ensure the provision of evidence-based instructional strategies within educational settings.

SLPs participate with student study teams, referral management teams and multi-disciplinary special education teams to assess student progress, identify students with disabilities and assist with education program planning.
