The Northwest STEM Hub supports regional internship programs in Clatsop, Columbia and Tillamook counties along with the Chief Science Officers youth voice initiative.

The Clatsop Works launched a pilot program in April 2018. Since then, the program has doubled in host-sites, interns and jobs offered at the end of the internship program.

In partnership with Clatsop Economic Development Resources and Clatsop Community College, the Clatsop Works provides local students, ages 16 and up, with professional, paid internships in Clatsop County. The program aims to build community, develop economic opportunities, promote local career opportunities and retain local talent.

Columbia Works is a Local School to Industry Partnership that works to provide school age students of Columbia County with relevant career related learning experiences throughout their education.

A highlight of the program is the collaboration between the schools of Columbia County and regional industry partners to provide high school age students with internship opportunities with local companies during the school year and over the summer.

Tillamook Works is a platform for local businesses and organizations to connect with its future workforce while allowing students to build skills and explore careers they are interested in. The program supports our economic landscape by helping to retain and grow talent starting from within our own educational institutions.

Tillamook Works is supported by Tillamook Bay Community College, the Northwest STEM Hub, and the K-12 school districts (Neah-Kah-Nie, Nestucca Valley and Tillamook).

"Chief Science Officers" organizational title text with CSO abbreviation inside a gecko divided into multiple science symbols, at the top it states "Transforming the voices of science"Chief Science Officers (CSO) is a nationwide program that aims to elevate the popularity of STEM and empower students to bring STEM opportunities to campus. Officers are students in grades 6-12 who are selected to represent STEM in the community and at their schools.

CSOs champion communication, interest and engagement in STEM (STEAM when you include the arts) and innovation on and off campus. Programming includes leadership training and planning STEM engagement opportunities to ensure these opportunities reflect their peers’ interests.

They streamline schools’ connection to local businesses and industry, higher education, and STEM professionals and organizations, working with these entities to offer their peers and community members hands-on experiences that build STEM awareness and important workforce skills.

Collaboratively, CSOs function as a unified cabinet, engaging in local, state and national STEM conversations to change the perception of STEM at the local, state and national levels; transform school and community culture; and broaden participation for all students and community members.
