NW Early Learning Hub is a convener, conduit and capacity-builder that works to connect the dots for families and system partners to help implement the State of Oregon’s vision that: All of Oregon’s young children, prenatal to age five, experience an early start that results in positive health, education, and life outcomes regardless of zip code, race, and family income.
The Early Childhood System is complex and made of many different system partners including childcare, preschool, home visiting, Head Start, healthcare, and so many more! As a Hub, we are charged with bringing that vision into light in an effort to improve alignment with all the programs that touch the lives of young children and their families.
By participating in Family Leadership Council, parents and/or family members will:
-
Make connections with other families and community organizations.
-
Develop their leadership skills, such as advocacy and meeting facilitation.
-
Share their experiences and expertise to help the Hub make strategic decisions.
-
Participate in at least one meaningful service project to support families and/or community partners.
Meeting Schedule:
The English and Spanish cohort meetings will take place in October, December, February, April, and June. All will take place online with the exception of the June meeting which will take place in person. More details to come.
Who can participate:
*Parents or family members caring for children that reside in Clatsop, Columbia or Tillamook County.
*Preference for families who are/were engaged with one or more of the Early Learning system partners or programs, such as EI/ECSE, Head Start, Preschool Promise, WIC, Home Visiting services, etc.
*We will offer two groups. One group will be a Spanish-speaking group for up to 6 latinx families. All meetings will be conducted in Spanish. One group will be offered in English. This is meant to be a community, so group size is limited to 6 members, and will include the 2 Parent Representatives from our Governance Council.
Commitment Required:
-
Attendance to at least 4 meetings.
-
Most meetings will be held virtually to allow for participation without geography as a barrier.
-
Possible travel to participate in advocacy 1-2 times per year.
NW Early Learning Hub believes there is value in learning from and with families across our tri-county region, because:
-
Families are the first and most important teachers in the lives of young children.
-
Parents and other family members bring wisdom from their lived experiences to help solve problems and address challenges in their local communities.
-
Partnership and collaboration are essential for improving educational outcomes for children that have been historically excluded or underserved
-
Learning is a lifelong process for all of us - we can all learn new skills and benefit from being in community with others.
