Career and College Readiness Team Co-Hosts Successful Student Career Fair in Columbia County
On April 27, our Career and College Readiness team co-hosted a career fair for Columbia County high school students at Portland Community College’s OMIC Training Center in Scappoose. More than 150 students from Clatskanie, Rainier, Scappoose, St. Helens and Vernonia participated.

Jordan Ely Named Chief Financial Officer
Jordan Ely has served as the CFO for Gresham-Barlow since 2020 where he oversees an annual operating budget of more than $165 million and an overall budget of $260 million. “Jordan was unanimously recommended for hire," says NWRESD Superintendent Dan Goldman.

John Peplinski Named Executive Director of Instructional Services
In his new role, John will oversee more than 50 staff and a dozen educational programs, including outdoor school, a variety of professional learning initiatives, the migrant education program, STEM Hub, career and college readiness initiatives, attendance services and school safety programming.

Northwest Regional ESD Pilots Friends and Me Playgroup for Preschoolers
The idea for the playgroup was born during the pandemic when children were isolated and were not getting the chance to interact with other children. Research also shows that every child benefits when classrooms are inclusive of children with and without disabilities.

Junior Achievement Breaks Ground on New Facility in Hillsboro
NWRESD has been collaborating with Junior Achievement for about a year on this expansion to the westside, which expects to host 12,000 students every school year.

Through Equity Learning Teams, NWRESD Aims for Antiracist Learning and Action to Permeate our Programs
NWRESD's first iterations of equity work focused on personal awareness and implicit bias. Under the leadership of our equity and family partnerships team and Superintendent Dan Goldman, our equity work has accelerated to also catalyze more opportunities for translating learning into action.

2023-24 Local Service Plan Approved
Local service plans are a required document for all education service districts in Oregon. The plan lays out the 92 services we will provide to the school districts in our region during the year ahead and must be approved by at least two-thirds of our partner school districts.

NWRESD Superintendent Dan Goldman Voted President of Oregon’s Association of Education Service Districts
Goldman was elected to the leadership position by the superintendents of Oregon’s education service districts. OAESD tackles common statewide and regional program, management and operational issues so that all children regardless of which school district they attend have access to quality educators.

NWRESD Names New School Safety Lead
Neha Mahajan Hertzog has joined Northwest Regional Education Service District as the new school safety and prevention services teacher on special assignment (TOSA). In her new role, Neha will collaborate with educators to develop, roll out and maintain a strong school safety and prevention system.

Take Your Racial Allyship to the Next Level
NWRESD is offering a free, three-part training series this April on refining the practice of racial allyship. This April equity series will be held in person from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays (April 5, 12 and 19) at the Washington Service Center in Hillsboro.
