Hillsboro – The Cascade Technology Alliance (CTA), an educational technology collaborative led by Northwest Regional, Multnomah and Willamette Education Service Districts, has named Stuart Long as its next Chief Information Officer.
“Stuart is an incredibly experienced, talented, and trusted leader in our region,” says Superintendent Dan Goldman of the Northwest Regional ESD. “I know I speak for all the superintendents in the CTA when I say we are incredibly excited to have him join our team.”
The CTA serves nearly half of Oregon’s student population, including 53 public school districts, and additional private and nonprofit systems.
“No matter if a child attends class in a one-room schoolhouse or in a school district that has 40,000 students, technology access will have a profound impact on their ability to pursue their dreams,” says Long. “That’s just the reality in 2020, and the current extended school closure has served to highlight and exacerbate inequities. I’m honored to join an alliance of school leaders with a track record for systemically expanding educational technology infrastructure in Oregon.”
Long currently serves as the Chief Information Officer at Clackamas Education Service District, where he has worked since 2010. While at Clackamas ESD, Long:
- Partnered with Clackamas County to bring high-speed, affordable internet connectivity to more than 130 school buildings in Clackamas County through the Clackamas Broadband eXchange.
- Launched the Clackamas Cybersecurity Task Force, where he spearheaded efforts to safeguard vulnerable student and school data from increasingly aggressive cyber attacks.
- More than tripled the ESD’s role as a regional service provider, including adding services for seven cities, Clackamas County and the State of Oregon.
Before Clackamas ESD, Long worked at Clackamas Community College for seven years in several technology-focused roles including Director of Technical Services.
On July 1, 2020, Stuart Long will replace Rick Wahlstrom, who has led the alliance since it was formed in 2011. Wahlstrom will retire in June.
"Stuart has worked hard to foster a collaborative community among all the ESDs in the state,” says Wahlstrom. “I expect the transition to Stuart at the helm of CTA will be seamless and will also provide a fresh perspective on how to deliver exceptional services."
Multnomah, Northwest Regional and Willamette Education Service Districts formed the Cascade Technology Alliance (CTA) in 2011. CTA now serves 53 school districts, public and private charter schools and nonprofit agencies throughout the three ESD regions. CTA enables these ESDs to offer more reliable and higher-quality technology services at a reduced cost. Smaller districts receive and participate in services that were previously out of reach, and larger districts benefit from lower costs and streamlined services.
