Our Northwest Regional Education Service District Early Literacy Supports Team presents a learning opportunity for individuals and school teams from Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, or Washington counties on the Science of Reading. This is a six-part series of professional development offered in the 2024-2025 school year which will focus on Pre-K through grade 5 reading interventions taught by instructional assistants. The learning goals include building a strong background knowledge of current reading research and best practices to use while instructing students in reading and writing.
The intended audience for this series of trainings includes all paraprofessionals and instructional assistants who are a part of literacy teams including Title I reading intervention teams in Pre-K through 5th grade settings. Participants should commit to attending all six sessions.
This professional development series will include information about the theoretical models showing how the human brain learns to read, and effective instructional strategies for instructional assistants teaching literacy skills to students in K-5 settings.
