Transgender and gender nonconforming youth often feel unsafe in the school setting where they experience rejection, exclusion, and struggle to find a sense of belonging. We all experience gender. Understanding this concept, as well as understanding gender identity development in children and how gender roles and identity impact us all is foundational for every educator. This workshop will increase your comfort level discussing concepts related to gender expansive youth and provide tools and strategies to create a safe, nurturing, gender inclusive environment for all students. The creation of welcoming, gender affirming spaces beginning at an early age will help minimize peer rejection and strengthen gender nonconforming students’ sense of belonging and emotional well-being.
