NWRESD is offering a free, three-part training series this April on refining the practice of racial allyship. Many educators and staff who work in education are committed to being allies, and the practice of racial allyship begins with setting those intentions. However, to flourish, we must understand the blindspot moments that hinder us from building sustainable cross-racial relationships.

Our equity and family partnerships team is pleased to present a free training to help people along this allyship journey. Discover common missteps and set yourself on a clear path to establishing trust and making the impact you’ve intended to make all along. We will unearth bias, understand our impression management habits, thwart discourse that disconnects, and implement best practices for building trust as we fortify cross-racial communication and relationships. We will take our allyship to the next level. This work will help us move along the antiracist multicultural continuum from affirming to antiracist.

This April equity series will be held in person from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays (April 5, 12 and 19) at the Washington Service Center in Hillsboro. It is open to all NWRESD staff and all educators who work for any of the 20 school districts in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook or Washington counties. We do not have a virtual option at this time. 

The third session will cover how to implement best practices for building trust as we fortify cross-racial communication and relationships.

About the trainer: Emmanuel Williams is the founder of YPD Equity Consulting. He’s a Portland native and a graduate of a historically black college and university (HBCU).
